Ebolowa sawmill receives Minister of Labour

On September 2, 2015, the Ebolowa sawmill welcomed Mr. Zacharie Perevet, Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, on the occasion of his working visit to certain companies and major construction sites in the South region.

Employee professionalization strategy

Five months after the CUF received the award for the best vocational integration in the South region, with more than 500 jobs created in three years, the Director of General Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Mpouma, representing the General Manager, recalled in his welcome speech the strategy of professionalization of employees carried out by the company for several years. And listed the numerous training courses for executives in quality management system and managerial coaching, internal training of employees in wood processing trades, training of slaughterers in controlled felling technology, the training of drivers in preventive driving etc. The Director of General Affairs also took advantage of his address to the Minister to report on the difficulties of CUF in finding qualified workforce quickly, very few training schools for the wood and processing trades exist.

Create training centres in the wood sector

The minister, responding to this call, invited Cameroon United Forests to join the government in order to carry out external training for young Cameroonians, and to create training centres in the wood sector. An idea already in the projects of the CUF which proposes to build a large wood processing unit, a state-of-the-art carpentry and a university of woodworking. The realization of this major project will generate more than 1,000 jobs.

The minister and his entourage, equipped with personal protective equipment, visited the sawmill under the explanations of Mr. Boris Nwokam, one of the heads of the Ebolowa sawmill. The ongoing installation of the third wood processing line, which will generate more than 100 additional jobs in the next few months, was welcomed.

As a souvenir of his visit to the Ebolowa sawmill, the CUF presented the minister with a royal chair made of Movingui roots. The Minister warmly thanked and congratulated CUF for its active participation in the development of Cameroon and invited the company to “always stay in excellence”.
