From Southern Nigeria to Angola and Uganda

Description of the wood:

Bark: yellowish brown (1 cm), scaly with sinuous ridges; granular yellowish brown slice speckled with white, fragrant.
Sapwood: well differentiated, yellowish white (3-6 cm).
Wood: reddish brown, darkening in the light; heartwood often has a diametrical split with powdery contents of a characteristic sulphur yellow colour.
Log diameter: 60 to 100 cm.

Physical properties:

Hard to very hard; moderately nervous

Mechanical properties:

Good but rather brittle when hit

Uses:

Exterior carpentry, shipbuilding, parquet floors, stairs, everyday furniture, chemical tanks.
