Description of the wood:

Bark: gray, cracked longitudinally, exfoliating in long, thin brownish strips; yellowish fibrous slice rapidly and abundantly exuding a reddish liquid which hardens and becomes blackish when drying.
Sapwood: well differentiated, white.
Wood: bright red, darkening quickly in the light.

Fissile, fairly elastic, shock resistant

Uses:

Veneer for cabinetmaking, carpentry, framework, parquet flooring, hydraulic works, shipbuilding, canoeing. Formerly used in dyeing.
