Cameroon United Forests receives the 2015 Grand Prix Citoyen
Cameroon United Forests collects diplomas. After receiving the award for the best professional integration in the South region in May 2015, the company received the Grand Prix citoyen 2015 in the forestry sector, awarded by the Association of Journalistes Citoyens on 3 June 2015.
This citizen award rewards “excellence, professional competence and the best public embodiment for the harmonious development of forest activities in Cameroon for the year 2014”. Awarded according to social and sustainable development criteria, this award once again highlights the importance that CUF attaches to the well-being of its employees and to respect for the environment. The General Manager recalled that this prize is “especially for employees” and said that this recognition “encourages them to always do better”.
The Association of Journalistes Citoyens was created two years ago in Yaounde and brings together 70 journalists from print media, radio and television. Its “Grand Prix citoyen” aims to celebrate each year the companies that stand o ut in their respective sectors of activity.
Awareness of logging operations
On April 22, 2015, the Bissam Chieftaincy Palaver Tree hosted an information and awareness meeting for the local population of the village regarding the operation of a part of the Ambam-Ebolowa Forest Management Unit (FMU 0919, logging plot 4-2). Chaired by the Deputy Prefect of Ebolowa II, the meeting brought together the General Staff of the Sub-prefecture, the Mayor of the Municipality of Ebolowa II, the Chief of the village of Bissam, the representative of the Departmental Delegation for Forests and Wildlife of Mvila, the Director of General Affairs, the Quality Manager and the Controller of the Cameroon United Forests (CUF), as well as the population of the village who attended in large numbers.
Participate in the socio-economic development of villages
The objective of this meeting was to raise awareness and inform the population about the merits of the operation by the CUF of a part of the communal forest. The Director of General Affairs of the CUF, Mr. Emmanuel Mpouma, recalled that the 50% of the Annual Forest Fees (AFF) donated to the municipalities concerned by the FMU are intended for 70% to socio-economic achievements and 30% to the management of the municipalities, according to the latest ministerial decree. 50% of the Annual Forest Fees (AFF) is also returned to the municipality concerned. The meeting provided an opportunity to respond to the questions and complaints of the villagers, as well as the compensation provided during the accidental or forced degradation of crops, Support for the construction of a watchtower for the Chieftaincy and financial contribution to various social projects. The CUF, concerned with the social development of the riverside villages, responded generously.
