Caterpillar company visits the Kribi construction site

On Tuesday, January 17, the General Manager of Cameroon United Forests visited the Kribi 09026 logging operation to a delegation from the Caterpillar company from the United States and Switzerland, through the distributor and partner Tractafric.

For the US company, the objective of the visit was to meet forestry customers with a large fleet of D7G bulldozers still in production, which is the case of the CUF, and to understand their use on the ground.  “The D7G bulldozer was for many years the machine of choice in forestry but in 2010 Caterpillar decided to stop production and replace it with the D6R XL;  However, many forest customers, especially in Africa, continue to use the D7G,” says Nicolas Milevaz, Caterpillar Sales Director.

By boarding a CUF D7G to skid the felled wood or open a road in the heart of the forest, Nicolas Milevaz and Jason Conklin, Head of Products, were able to better understand the expectations of the CUF in terms of specifications (type of motor, transmission, required tonnage etc.) and application, in order to define a potential new model of bulldozer in forestry production, which is a robust machine and easy to repair, approaching the D7G.

The visit to the Kribi site, commented by the Managing Director, was very informative for the Caterpillar Directors who saw and integrated all stages of logging. They will no longer sit in the same way on a wooden chair!
